The Playford Brothers' Bricks made by William & Richard Playford

PLAYFORD BROTHERS (1876-1882), Windsor Road, Petersham. William Playford began as a brickmaker in the late 1860s. The Playford brothers, William and Richard operated in the latter half of the 1870s from New Canterbury Road, Marrickville. In 1880 they were listed at their Petersham address. The impression PLAYFORD appears on sandstock bricks. The impression PB with MARRICKVILLE on the reverse side appears on semi-plastic bricks. The bricks, used in the construction of the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital (1876-81), were probably made by the Playford brothers.
